TCF and TEF Canada in Toronto

In Toronto, Alliance Française Toronto runs the TCF Canada and the TEF Canada from its Spadina campus at 24 Spadina Road, with three more exam locations at North York, Mississauga and Oakville. Booking here works on a quarterly clock rather than a rolling calendar: sessions are held quarterly and registration opens one month before each quarter at 10 a.m. Registration is handled exclusively online, never in person or over the phone, and you may hold only one active registration at a time across the four centres.

What to expect in Toronto

From the centre's official information. Written in our own words, never republished.

01

Booking runs on a quarterly clock. The centre holds exam sessions quarterly and opens registration one month before each quarter at 10 a.m. The published 2026 openings were December 2, 2025 for Q1, then March 2, May 20 and August 17, so plan around the next release rather than refreshing daily.

02

There is no counter service for exams. Alliance Française Toronto states that registrations are handled exclusively online, not in person and not over the phone, so you create an account, pick your date, complete the questionnaire and pay the fee in one sitting.

03

One registration at a time, and 20 days between tests. The centre applies the immigration rule that two sittings must be at least 20 days apart, and it automatically cancels duplicate registrations inside that period without a refund, so booking a backup date at a second GTA centre will backfire.

04

Your exam could be at any of four addresses. Downtown Toronto, North York, Mississauga and Oakville all run sessions, and you pick the campus during the same online registration, so check which one your confirmation names. Bring valid photo ID showing your date of birth, such as a passport, driver licence or national ID card.

How to book the TCF or TEF exam in Toronto

  1. 01

Work out which test you need first. Alliance Française Toronto lists TCF Canada, TEF Canada 4 modules for permanent residence, and TEF Canada 2 modules for citizenship or francophone mobility. TEF IRN, TEF Études and TEFAQ are the exception: for those three you email your nearest campus rather than booking online.

  2. 02

Create your Alliance Française account before the window opens. Registrations are handled exclusively online, so an account and a working card are the only way in.

  3. 03

Watch the quarterly release. Sessions are held quarterly and registration opens one month before each quarter at 10 a.m. The published 2026 openings were December 2, 2025, March 2, May 20 and August 17.

  4. 04

Choose your campus and date, complete the questionnaire, and pay in full at registration. The centre lists the total cost of the TCF Canada as $390 CAD.

  5. 05

Pick your format at the same time. The TCF is offered paper based and computer based, you choose when you register, and the cancellation deadline is 30 days out for a paper session against 15 days for a computer one.

  6. 06

Read the cancellation terms before you pay. A $100 administration fee applies to cancellations and transfers, and a duplicate booking inside the 20 day gap is cancelled without a refund.
