The practice test has 15 sample questions — 5 in each of listening, reading, and written French. Each item is calibrated to a CEFR level between A2 and B2. Your section score is mapped to a CLB band using the same conversion tables that IRCC uses for TEF Canada results, then averaged to produce a 1-band overall estimate.
Because a 15-question test is necessarily a snapshot, the result is always a range (for example, "CLB 6-7"), not a single number. Use it to decide what to work on next — not to estimate your exact exam day score.
| CLB band | What it unlocks |
|---|---|
| CLB 4 | Minimum for Canadian citizenship (speaking + listening only) |
| CLB 5-6 | Some provincial nominee programs and trade streams |
| CLB 7 | Express Entry minimum for French as second official language (25 CRS points) |
| CLB 7+ (French as first) | Category-based French draws — historically 370-430 CRS cutoffs |
| CLB 9+ | Maximum CRS points for French ability (50 points as first language) |

It's an estimate, not an official score. Expect a 1-band range. Use it to decide where to focus your prep, not to predict your exact exam day score.
Yes. The sample questions are the same each time so you can benchmark your progress. Retake after studying to see if your band moves up.
No. It's a 20-minute practice test, not a full mock. For a full-length timed simulation of the TEF, take one of our mock exams.
Speaking requires human or AI evaluation and can't be auto-graded for anonymous users. The written-French section tests the same grammar and register foundations. For spoken-French feedback, see our speaking practice page.
