How the CLB estimate works
The placement check has 15 questions: 7 listening and 8 reading. Each skill steps up through A2, B1, B2 and C1, with two questions at each level (one at C1 in listening). You reach a level when you answer at least one of its questions correctly and every level below it, so your result is the highest level you reached without a gap, not the hardest question you got right. Skipped questions are left out of your count, but you need at least 3 answers in a skill for an estimate.
- 7 listening items, each recording playable up to 3 times: announcements, messages, conversations, interviews, news
- 8 reading items: notices, letters, articles, opinion pieces
You see both skills, stronger first, because immigration counts each skill on its own. The result is a quick estimate and a starting point, not an exam score. Use it to decide what to work on next.
