TEF Canada in Mumbai

In Mumbai, Alliance Française de Bombay runs the TEF Canada, the federal exam IRCC accepts for Express Entry and Canadian citizenship. Sittings are held at Theosophy Hall, 40 New Marine Lines, and the centre lists the exam at ₹26,000 a seat. Two things catch people out here. Registration closes well ahead of the exam, roughly nine days on the sittings we checked, and the sessions are small: when we looked in August 2026, both published September dates were already full at ten of ten seats.

What to expect in Mumbai

From the centre's official information. Written in our own words, never republished.

01

Registration closes long before the exam day. On the September 2026 sittings we checked, booking opened on June 20 and closed on September 3 for a September 12 exam, a cut-off about nine days ahead. Windows are set per sitting, so treat the closing date on your own date as the real deadline, not the exam date.

02

Sessions are small and they do fill. Sittings here typically cap around ten seats, and when we checked in August 2026 both published September dates already stood at ten of ten. The booking system carries no waitlist, so the practical move is to take the first date you can sit rather than the one you would prefer.

03

This is the e-TEF, the computer based version of the exam, taken on screen at the centre. The ₹26,000 the booking system lists is for the full four module TEF Canada, which is the combination Express Entry and permanent residence require.

04

Know your venue before exam day. The centre names the sitting location as Theosophy Hall, 40 New Marine Lines in Mumbai, so confirm that address on your own booking rather than assuming the exam runs from the centre's office.

Booking

How to book the TEF exam in Mumbai

  1. 01

Decide which version you need first. Express Entry and permanent residence use the four module TEF Canada, and that is what Alliance Française de Bombay lists.

  2. 02

Open the centre's e-TEF page and read the published sittings. Each one carries its own registration window and its own seat count, so an exam still weeks away can already be closed.

  3. 03

Budget ₹26,000 for the full TEF Canada, the amount the centre lists per seat.

  4. 04

Register inside the window rather than near the exam. On the September 2026 dates we checked, the window ran from June 20 to September 3, closing about nine days before the sitting.

  5. 05

If every listed date shows as full, keep watching the sessions list. Seats cap at around ten per sitting, so one cancellation is enough to reopen a date.

Well before the exam. On the September 2026 sittings we checked, the window ran from June 20 to September 3, closing roughly nine days ahead of a September 12 exam. Each date carries its own window, so read the one attached to the sitting you want.

What do I do if every Mumbai date is full?
