The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), marked the 13th National Francophone Immigration Week, emphasizing the important role of Francophone newcomers across the country. This year’s theme, “Thank you for enriching our Francophonie,” celebrates their cultural, economic, and social contributions.
IRCC is advancing efforts to support Francophone minority communities outside Quebec, including the Welcoming Francophone Communities initiative. The department also reiterated progress toward meeting the 2025 goal of admitting 8.5% French-speaking permanent residents outside Quebec.
Additionally, the recent Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration resulted in a commitment to develop a new federal-provincial-territorial action plan to boost Francophone immigration outside Quebec, in collaboration with community partners. The statement expressed a warm welcome to newcomers building their lives in Canada during this week of recognition.
