Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has outlined plans to refine its Express Entry system for 2026, aiming to attract top talent in key economic sectors. The system manages applications for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Workers, and Federal Skilled Trades programs.
Existing categories focusing on strong French language skills and occupations in health care, trades, and STEM fields will continue. New categories will target experienced researchers, senior managers, transport workers like pilots and aircraft mechanics, and skilled military recruits with Canadian job offers. These changes align with federal efforts to promote innovation, economic growth, and national security.
IRCC also reaffirms its commitment to boosting Francophone immigration outside Quebec, aiming for over 30,000 francophone newcomers annually and a goal of 12% francophone immigration outside Quebec by 2029. Additionally, dedicated pathways for foreign medical doctors with Canadian experience will support healthcare access.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to stabilize immigration levels, support labor market needs, and provide predictability for employers and communities. IRCC is also working with provinces, territories, and stakeholders to improve credential recognition and streamline pathways for newcomers.
