IRCC Prioritizes Skilled Talent in 2026 Express Entry Selection

The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), outlined key changes to the Express Entry system for 2026 focused on attracting top skilled workers. The government will continue targeted invitation rounds for candidates with strong French language skills and experience in health care, social services, trades, and STEM fields. New categories are being introduced to address emerging economic needs, including researchers and senior managers with Canadian experience, transport sector workers such as pilots and aircraft mechanics, and skilled military recruits with job offers from the Canadian Armed Forces. A dedicated stream for foreign medical doctors with Canadian work experience remains a priority to support healthcare access. These adjustments are part of a broader International Talent Attraction Strategy aimed at stabilizing immigration levels, meeting labour market demands, and supporting innovation and economic growth. IRCC emphasizes collaboration with provinces, territories, and employers to ensure Express Entry remains predictable and aligned with Canada's priorities.
